Frequently Asked Questions

This page covers everything parents ask about baby swimming, toddler classes, pre‑diploma lessons, private lessons, and special‑needs friendly swimming at Cub Club.

What is Cub Club?

Cub Club offers small, calm, structured swimming lessons for babies (0–1), toddlers (1–4), and pre‑diploma swimmers (4–6). Our focus is water confidence, safety skills, and smart progression, not rushing or forcing.

What teaching approach does Cub Club use?

Cub Club uses a child-led, confidence-based approach: predictable routines, small groups, deep-water skills from the start, and consistent repetition. The goal is safe, confident swimmers, not rushed progression.

What ages do you teach?

  • Group 1: 0–1 year

  • Group 2: 1–2 years

  • Group 3: 2–3 years

  • Group 4: 3–4 years

  • Pre‑diploma / 4–6 years: building ABC skills without the pressure of diploma exams

Do parents join the lessons?

Yes for all 0–4 groups. For pre‑diploma (4–6 years), kids go in alone.

What skills do babies and toddlers learn?

Depending on their level:

  • Safe entries and exits

  • Floating (front and back)

  • Kicking

  • Bubbles and breath control

  • Jumping in and returning to the wall

  • Underwater confidence

  • Rotation skills

Do you work with children who have special needs?

Yes. Cub Club is highly suitable for:

  • Anxiety around water

  • Sensory challenges

  • ADHD/attention challenges

  • Delayed motor development

  • Children who struggle in busy group environments

We keep the environment calm, predictable, and structured.

Parents can choose either group lessons or private sessions — depending on what the child needs.

How big are the group classes?

Up to 8 children per class, with parents in the water for 0–4 programs.

How long is one class?

All classes are 30 minutes.

Where do you teach?

Cub Club currently teaches in:

  • Den Haag

  • Lisse

  • Noordwijk

What swimwear do we need?

For babies and toddlers:

  • Double layer: reusable swim nappy + Happy Nappy

For older children:

  • Comfortable swimsuit

  • Optional goggles

My child cries in the water. Is that normal?

Yes. Many babies and toddlers need time to adjust. Crying is communication, not failure. We slow down, stay calm, and meet the child where they are.

My child has a fear of water. Can Cub Club help?

Absolutely. Our approach is perfect for nervous swimmers. We never force anything. We build trust through repetition and small wins.

How does progression work?

Cub Club uses three levels within each group:

  • Starter

  • Learner

  • Advanced

Children progress naturally through repetition. There’s no pressure or competition.
